Ashton & Henrys Lake Hatcheries
Ashton Fish Hatchery stocks fish, primarily, in the Upper Snake Region of Eastern Idaho. The species raised here include rainbow trout (both catchable size and fingerling), cutthroat trout and arctic grayling. The arctic grayling are stocked statewide into high mountain lakes.
Fish currently on hand at Ashton Fish Hatchery are 30,000 rainbow catchables for stocking during the Summer of 2001 and 100,000 rainbow fingerling to be reared for one more year for stocking as catchables during 2002. Also on hand are 20,000 "pure strain" Yellowstone Cutthroat for stocking into Golden Lake at Harriman State Park and into Henrys Lake this Fall.

Henrys Lake Hatchery has opened for the season. The trap has been closed and spawning for the year has been completed. The total number of fish trapped includes 7,190 cutthroat and 4,391 rainbow/cutthroat hybrids. The total egg take is 2,402,000 cutthroat eggs and 856,800 rainbow/cutthroat hybrid eggs. The average size of cutthroat trapped was 17.4 inches while the average hybrid was 19.0 inches long. The primary management project for Henrys Lake this year will be the intensive creel survey.
