Important information regarding Ida.net e-mail accounts!

June 3, 2014

Tuesday morning, between the hours of Midnight and 5:00am, we will be updating the DNS records for all of the Ida.net Mail services to begin to point to our upgrades sytems. After the records have been updated, and the new services take over, there may be some issues for customer's logging in for the first time. To help address this potenial issue, we wanted to remind everyone of some of the highlighted changes:

1) User Names: It is now required for the use of the full e-mail address as your username. This will apply to both the webmail login, and within your e-mail client for sending and receiving e-mail.

2) Passwords: Once the new systems are online you are free to change your password to one of your choice, as long as it meets the complexity requirements, of 8-20 characters including one CAPITAL letter, one lowercase letter, one (1) number, and one special character, ie ! or @ or # etc. You are free to continue using the password we have sent you already, however, we would highly encourage everyone to update their passwords as soon as possible.

3) Client Configurations: There should be no need to change server settings within your e-mail client beyond updating the username and password. All of the existing servers will be pointed to the new servers internally and will only require a restart of your e-mail client.

4) Mail Filter: With these new upgrades, the old mail filter will be incorporated into the new system and will no longer require ida.net users to have to login to a separate system to check their spam folders. There will be a spam folder included in the webmail interface. This is where you may find questionable e-mails or e-mails from senders you may not know to approve or reject as spam. This functions in much the same way as many other e-mail providers such as gmail or hotmail. The mail filter will still be accessible by our hosted domain customers.

5) Mail Forwards and Auto-Reply: Many people had their e-mails setup to forward to a different e-mail address or had auto-reply or vacation notifications enabled on their e-mail accounts. We are not able to carry these forward to the new system through the migration process. These will need to be resetup through the new webmail interface to restore that functionality. If you need assistance with this, our support agents will be able to help you.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we work hard to bring these much needed upgrades and improvements to our mail systems. These upgrades will reduce or eliminate the number of blacklisting events, provide better spam and virus filtering, and offer several feature upgrades to our webmail system.

Please feel free to give us a call at 1-866-92-Digis, or e-mail us at emailadmin@ida.net for any questions you may have regarding this process.

May 30, 2014

As of Friday May 30, 2014 we have been successful in our initial migration process. The next step in the process is for us to redirect all the DNS records to the new servers. We are going to hold off on this step until the morning of Tuesday, June 3, 2014. This decision has been made to allow for a larger number of employees to be on hand for troubleshooting as well as to avoid making changes on what our customers have expressed are their two most important e-mail days. This step should require no interaction by our customers other than closing and re-opening their e-mail client.

After this update has been completed and tested we will do the final e-mail sync between the servers. This will copy any e-mail that has not been downloaded between today and Tuesday over to the new server.

Once these last two steps have been completed I will be sending out an e-mail that includes FINAL in the subject line. This is to signify that the e-mail migration has been completed and users are free to change their passwords to one of their choice as long as it meets the minimum security requirements.

As a reminder this requirement is one capital letter, one lower case letter, one special character, one number, and eight to twenty total characters. We encourage customers to take advantage of their new ability to change their passwords, but you can continue using the passwords we provided if you choose.

The interface you use to change your password also has other functions that users may find useful including e-mail forwarding, auto responses, the ability to check external mail sources, e-mail rules for automated handling of e-mail, SPAM controls, and others. In the FINAL e-mail we will include instructions for changing your password in more detail, but a very broad overview of how you will be able to do it is:

1) Log into webmail.ida.net
2) In the top right of the new mail interface click the link for Options
3) Click the link for Password
4) Fill in the fields and click Save.

If you have a question or concern please feel free to e-mail emailadmin@ida.net.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this process,
The Ida.net Email Migration Team

May 12, 2014

We have recently begun sending notification e-mails regarding some exciting new changes for the ida.net e-mail users. These e-mail's may appear to be suspicious to some people, but are intended to inform our customers of the changes which will be happening over the course of the next 2 weeks.

These changes are intended to improve the reliability and availability of user accounts related to ida.net e-mail addresses. This will also address recent problems of the existing e-mail system with user accounts being compromised and resulting in our mail servers getting blacklisted and causing problems sending e-mails to other e-mail services such as Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.

You can see the format and content of the e-mail notification we are sending out Here.

If you have any questions regarding this migration, please feel free to contact us at emailadmin@ida.net or by phone at 1-866-92-DIGIS.

Sincerely,
The Ida.net Email Migration Team
