What We Believe, Teach and
Confess . . .
- that the LORD is God
- that there is one God and three persons -
Father - Son - Holy Spirit
- in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven
and earth
- in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord; Who
was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the virgin Mary; suffered under
Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell;
the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and
sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He
shall come to judge the quick and the dead
- in the Holy Ghost; the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of
the body; and the life everlasting
- that since the fall of Adam and Eve in the
Garden of Eden, everyone is sinful
- that every human being is born with a
self-centered nature which violates God's will and desire
- that each one of us sins daily in thoughts,
words and deeds
- that God is a just God Who must punish sin
- that God is a merciful God Who sent His own
Son to suffer and die on account of all sins
- that Jesus the Christ atoned for all sins of
all people of all time
- that Jesus rose from the dead on Easter and
demonstrated to the world that His sacrifice was sufficient and that
sin, death and the devil were defeated
- that the Holy Spirit convicts the sinner
through the message of God's Law which accuses
- that the Holy Ghost grants the gift of
repentance and works the gift of faith in the sinner through the message
of God's Gospel (the Good News that Jesus died and rose again for all
people)
- that the one, holy Church is made up of all
people who trust that Jesus Christ is their Redeemer
- that the LORD has given
two sacraments to the Church -- Baptism (for infants and adults) and the
Lord's Supper (for the nurturing of faith for those who are prepared to
commune)
- that the very Body and the very Blood of Jesus
are received in the Lord's Supper
- that the LORD sustains
His Church through the Word of the Gospel
- that the fellowship that God establishes with
His people on earth will continue after this life as believers live with
Him in Heaven for all eternity
- that there are only two religions in the world
- the religion of the Law and the religion of the Gospel
- that salvation alone comes by the grace of God
alone through faith alone in Christ alone as revealed in the Bible
alone, and,
- that all of this is most certainly true!
