HISTORY, MISSION OF THE 539th SIGNAL COMPANY (Medium Headquarters) (Operations)
The 539th Signal Company was originally constituted as the 539th Signal Heavy Construction Company in April, 1944 , and was assigned to the Tenth Army and participated in the Western Pacific campaign during World War II.
After the war, it was inactived until November 1962 when it was redesignated the 539th Signal Company and assigned to the Army Reserve. The unit was based in Salt Lake City Utah. The 539th Signal Company was again inactivated in December 1965. In February 1972, the unit was reactivated and based at Rexburg Idaho and Idaho Falls Idaho. In October 1993 it was inactived again.
The unit is capable of installing, operating and maintaining a telephone central office and system. It provides cryptographic, teletypewriter, telecommunication and transceiver facilities. Additionally, the unit performs ground messenger, electric repair, and photographic services.
