Other information:
With Abraham we see another swing of the pendulum from Rockett to Wakely. He was christened Rockett in 1611 in Whitchurch Canonicorum but was recorded as Wakely in parish registers at least from 1643, when he baptised a daughter. he was then of Thorncombe - as to be expected given his father had taken over the family lands there at the beginning of tho 1620's.
Abraham's next two children were christened in Chardstock - his mother's parish but the register makes it clear he was a Thorncombe man. In the 1650's he reappears in the Thorncombe registers - perhaps because of family property re-arrangements after his father's death.
There is no record either of his marriage or his burial in any surviving register. It is likely he married c1640 in Thorncombe but the register from 1640 to 1643 is missing. It is possible he may have been buried in Hawkchurch but once again the registers for that parish are missing up to 1663.
Abraham's elder brother John lived long enough to sire a son, also John, thus securing the handing down of the Chackridge estate along with one parcel of the Thorncombe lands brought by his grandfather. John left his brother Thomas forty pence - probably just enough for Thomas to buy himself a small luxury in memory of John.
Thomas himself had married well and was a county figure of sufficient importance to be invited by local gentry in Somerset to settle property disputes and be called 'gent'.
Abraham's brother Robert was a major local figure on the Commonwealth side in the Civil War like his uncle Nicholas, and received a fairly substantial share of the Wakely inheritance as did his other brother Edward. We can assume that Abraham being older than Edward received his share too.
Seventeenth century wills for John of Chackridge and his descendants show them staying with the name Rockett - although they occasionally use the name Wakely or Wakely alias Rockett in parish registers. Thomas and Robert stuck to Wakely but Edward was usually a Rockett. It appears that some more or less real Rocketts were around - this contention was supported by mid-seventeenth century Hawkchurch wills and by two other things. One; a Chancery suit between them and the Rockett alias Wakelys over their lease of Chackridge lands - Wakelys wanted them back. Two; deeds of the period show Rockett alias Wakelys seal their documents with the crest of a trippant stag whilst Rocketts use a coat of arms which contain a roquette in a French escutcheon. A roqustte is the French name for the kind of blunted lance used in jousts. The Rocketts it appears were almost certainly religious refugees from Normandy - conveniently placed on the main roads inland from Lyme Regis on the coast were the first known Rockett centres of Axminster and Marshwood!

This probably was the expedition of 100 men who were sent out in August 1639, as a sequel to the Pequot war. The land was not laid out until 1716, at which time it was assigned by his son James to Benjamin Fairweather of Stratfield.6,18 The will of Henry Wakelee of Stratford is dated 11 July 1689, codicil 5 April 1690, proved 8 November 1690. 4. Rebecca2 Wicklee (513) (James1Wakelee) married Ezekiel Sanford (512), son of Thomas Sanford (1024) and Sarah (1025), on 25 April 1665 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, CT.29,30,31,32 She died between late 1683, when she administered her husband's estate, and 2 November 1697 when the children agreed to distribution in Fairfield, Fairfield County, CT.29,33
Rebecca's name is spelled "Wiekle" in the marriage record. This is probably a variant of Waklee, and cannot be read as Whelpley, although older accounts such as Todd's History of Redding and Schenck's History of Fairfield used Whelpley in print. Parke and Jacobus hypothesized that she might be a daughter of Henry Wakelee of Fairfield by an unknown first marriage, but that she was certainly not the daughter of Richard Wakelee. Henry and Richard were probably sons of James Wakelee, an early Hartford resident. If Rebecca was the daughter of James, she was probably 20 to 25 years younger than Henry and Richard, possibly the child of an intermediate wife.34,35Ancestral File Number:<AFN> 8M4M-0L

Ezekiel Sanford (512). No record of Ezekiel's birth has been found. He probably was born in 1637 in Dorchester, Suffolk County, MA.36,37,38,39 He died on 5 October 1683 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, CT.40,41,42 Some writers doubted that Ezekiel was the son of Thomas, because very early writings give an Ezekiel Sanford as the builder of the stockade fort at Saybrook. Carlton Sanford believed it possible that the builder was this Ezekiel, or perhaps an engineer of that name sent over from England. But Carlton Sanford was convinced that our Ezekiel was the son of Thomas of Milford, based upon the names of his children, and the fact that James Savage and the historian of Milford both considered him Thomas' son. In more recent times, Jacobus has also placed Ezekiel as the son of Thomas Sanford of Milford.38,35,43,33,44 Ezekiel's name does not appear in the vital, church, probate and deed records at Milford except in his father's will.38 On 10 June 1663 John Kelly receipted to father-in-law Nathaniel Willett for his wife's portion from her father's estate; Ezekiel Sanford was one of the witnesses.10 On 10 June 1663 an Ezekiel Sanford witnessed a receipt given at Hartford by John Kelly. The only other Ezekiel available for this record was the son of Robert Sanford, who was only 15 at the time. While it is not impossible that the younger Ezekiel signed as witness, Ezekiel son of Thomas may have lived in Hartford for a time. He had numerous relatives there, and Hartford was the earlier home of the Wakelee family.35 Ezekiel probably settled at Fairfield about the time of his marriage. Although the marriage and children are entered in the Fairfield records, Jacobus says that is not proof the marriage occurred there.35 In May 1668 Ezekiel Sanford of Fairfield was propounded for freeman. He was made freeman at Fairfield in 1669.35,38 He appeared on the census of October 1669 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, CT: "A List of ye names of ye freemen of towne of Fairefield ... Ezekiell Sanford."45 On 16 January 1673/74 Ezekiel received a grant of land from the town of Fairfield.35 On 23 September 1681 he was mentioned as eldest son Ezekiel in the will of Thomas Sanford of Milford.46 The inventory of Ezekiel Sanford of Fairfield was taken in 1683; it was valued at £356. It mentions widow; eldest son Ezekiel; other son Thomas; daughters Sarah, Mary, Rebecca, Martha, and Elizabeth. Ezekiel was a tanner, and a large land owner, but had distributed much of the land to his children during his lifetime. His widow administered on his estate, but died before it was settled.29,38 On 2 November 1697 the heirs of Ezekiel Sanford of Fairfield signed an agreement to distribute the estate. Inventory of the estate taken 2 January 1684/5 amounted to £356. The widow had administered upon the estate, receiving 1/3 of the land during her life and £56 out of the personal estate. The heirs signing were: Ezekiel Sanford, Thomas Sanford, Cornelius Hull in behalf of Sarah his wife; Theophilus Hull, in right of Mary his wife; John Seely in right of Rebecca his wife; Martha Sanford (by mark); Elizabeth Sanford (by mark). Nathan Gold signed as clerk.47,29

vi. Martha Sanford (512vi) was born on 29 June 1677.29,48,49,50,51 She married Nathaniel Hoyt.29,49
vii.
