FORT GORDON GEORGIA:

FORT GREELY ALASKA:

Established 1942, named for Maj. Gen. Adolphus Washington Greely, Arctic explorer; site of Northern Warfare Training Center, Army Cold Regions Test Center, Arctic Test Center; 160 mil, 160 civilians, 500 contractors, 677,000 acres, located approximately 102 miles southeast of Fairbanks, the post is ideally suited for missions requiring rugged country and extreme weather temperatures. The nearest community is Dalta Junction, with 3,000 inhabitants, six miles from the post. Observes and participants line the shores to enjoy this spectacular sport. Swimming and boating, deep-sea fishing, hiking, bicycling, and tennis can be enjoyed the year round. On one end of Oahu, gliding is drawing increasing interest. With Hawaii's generally ideal weather, indoor recreation tends to become outdoor recreation, no matter what the activity. FORT KNOX, KENTUCKY:

Fort Knox, located near Radcliff, in north central Kentucky about 45 miles south of Louisville, is the home of the US Army Armor Center and School, 194th Armor Bde, HQ of an Army Readiness Group, US Bullion Depository and the Second ROTC Region. Some 6,100 active duty; 1,000 guard; 4,200 reserve, 6,800 family members; and 5,700 civilians make up the post's military and civilian population. The post itself was established in 1918, named for Maj. Gen. Henry Knox, Revolutionary War hero and first secretary of war. In 1936, it became the site for a Bullion Depository responsible for the security of several billion dollars in gold. In 1940 the Armored Center was activated here on 109,000 acres. FORT LEAVENWORTH, KANSAS:

Overlooking the Missouri River, on the border between Kansas and Missouri,situated about 30 miles northwest of Kansas City, on the west bank of the Missouri River, Fort Leavenworth is the Combined Arms Center for Tactical Doctrine Development and Instruction, and the Combined Army Combat Developments Activity, Combined Arms Center Training Activity, HQ, TRADOC Analysis Command, HQ, 35th Inf Div (Mech.) of the Army National Guard. It houses the Army's only senior tactical school, the Command and General State College. Small as Army installation go – only 5,600 acres – the post has seen much activity since its founding in 1827, named for Bvt. Brig. Gen. Henry Leavenworth, commander of the 3rd Inf. FORT LEE, VIRGINIA:

Fort Lee is situated just 3 miles east outside Petersburg, Virginia, on with a work population of 3,224 active duty, 5,182 family members; 145 reserve; 3,660 civ. It is the home of the Combined Army Support Command, Army Information Systems Software Development Center, Facilities Engineer Systems Support Division Army Procurement Research and Analysis Office, Army Quartermaster Center and School, Army Logistics Center, Troop Support Agency. Considered part of the Fort Lee complex are nearby Camp A.P. Hill and Camp Pickett. Fort Lee is 130 miles south of Washington D.C. and about two hours' drive from the Atlantic Ocean. Leonard Wood, Army chief of staff, 1910-1914; the mission of this modern, self-sufficient post is Engineer Center and School, Engineer Training Center, and Basic Training Center. It is located in the Ozark Mountains in south-central Missouri, at St. Robert, Missouri, 30 miles southwest of Rolla, 130 miles southwest of St. Louis. With a work population of 3,205 civ, 4,705 active duty; 100 guard; 200 reserve, 12,444 family members, and an area of over 63,000 acres. LETTERKENNY ARMY DEPOT, PA:

Opened 1942, named after Letterkenny Township, which the depot absorbed; performs storage, issue, rebuilding, testing, overhauling and demilitarization of general supplies; 2 mil, 1,265 civ, 19,500 acres, 5 miles north of Chambersburg, 50 miles southwest of Harrisburg. Fort Myer is part of the Military District of Washington and is located in Arlington, Virginia, adjacent to Arlington National cemetery, across the Potomac River from Washington D.C.
