In the U.S. all the demographic information that I've been able to locate comes from the U.S. Census Bureau. As they have a well-thought out Web site with free univesal access I'm operating under the KISS theory and providing their site as the primary one for this category.

From Missouri State Geography. 1990 U.S. census data. Basic tables and trends for states, counties, cities and metropolitian areas. Easy, intuitive format. Great location when you want simple population data.

Statistics Canada

Daily news, census data, Canadian statistics, analytic articles.

U.S. Census Bureau

Access to all census data (including estimates and projections). Business census, economic census, foreign trade information. Access to TIGER on-line mapping. Economic briefing room and economic indicator calendar.
