Infant/Newborn Booties

 

...Double knit, double fast!

YARN: Sport weight acrylic (Sample done in Plymouth Encore Worsted Weight)

NEEDLES: 1(2) sets size 3 DPNs

GAUGE: 5 sts & 6 rows to 1" (approximate)

TOE AND FOOT:
CO (cable or double-stranded) 24 sts.
*K1,Sl 1* for 2", working an even number of rows.
***At beginning of each row bring working yarn to back before inserting needle for knit stitch***
Open toe with two empty needles by alternately slipping stitches to each needle (hold front and back for ease).
Toe is inside (purl side) out.

HEEL PREP:
Row 1: Purl across 12 stitches on front needle, P3 on back needle, slip last 3 stitches to front needle (15sts)
Row 2: Knit across 15 stitches on front needle, K3 on back needle, slip last 3 stitches to front needle (18sts)
6 instep stitches remain on back (unworked needle).

HEEL:
Work 9 rows st st on 18 front stitch needle, slipping first stitch of each row purlwise.
K9
Fold heel right sides together to align two 9st needles. Work across in 3-needle bind-off.

RIBBING/CUFF:
Turn bootie right side out.
With right side facing, pick up and knit 8 stitches along first edge (9sts on needle)
Knit across instep.
Pick up and knit 8 stitches along next edge.
K2 tog, P1 on first needle. *K1, P1* around remainder of stitches
Continue in *K1, P1* rib to desired length (approx. 9 RDS)
Cast off loosely in pattern.

Bring yarn ends to inside, finish and remove.
Shape by hand.
