Infant Sock

...Keep those toelettes toasty!

YARN: Sport weight acrylic (sample in Plymouth Encore Worsted Weight)

NEEDLES: 1(2) sets size 3 DPNs

GAUGE: 5 sts & 6 rows to 1" (approximate)

RIBBING:
CO (cable or double-stranded) 24 sts. Divide evenly among 3 needles. Join, taking care not to twist.
*K2,P2* for 15 to 20 RDS (number of RDS dictated by preference/pattern)

HEEL FLAP:
···Slip ALL heel flap stitches Purlwise w/ Yarn in Front···
Working (next) 12 stitches only (divide other 12 evenly among other two needles):
Row 1: Sl 1, P across
Row 2: *Sl 1, K1*
Repeat for 12 rows, ending with a knit (RS) row.

HEEL TURN:
Row 1: P7, P2tog, P1, turn (short row; not all stitches worked)
Row 2: Sl 1, K3, SSK, K1, turn (short row; not all stitches worked)
Row 3: Sl 1, P4, P2tog, P1, turn (all stitches worked)
Row 4: Sl 1, K5, SSK, K1, turn (all stitches worked)
All stitches worked; 8 stitches remain.***TIP: Decreases are always one stitch in from the beginning or end of a needle. A decrease at the beginning of a needle will be K1, SSK and a decrease at the end of a needle will be K2tog, K1.

GUSSET:
Pick up & knit 7 stitches along left edge of heel flap. (Last stitch in corner btwn heel flap & instep.)
Combine stitches on next two needles (12 sts) and *K2, P2* across.
Pick up & knit 7 stitches along right edge of heel flap. (First stitch in corner btwn heel flap & instep.)
Knit next 4 stitches to same needle & slip next 4 to following needle. (Free up working needle.)
Knit 1 RND.
RND 1:
Needle 1: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1
Needle 2: Knit
Needle 3: K1, SSK, K to end
RND 2: Knit
Alternate RNDS 1 & 2 until 6 stitches remain on each needles 1 & 3 remain. (24 total stitches)

FOOT:
K (plain or pattern, as desired) 6 RDS.

TOE:
RND 1:
Needle 1: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1
Needle 2: K1, SSK, K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1
Needle 3: K1, SSK, K to end
RND 2: Knit
RND 3: Knit
Alternate RDS until (3; 6; 3--12 sts total) remain.
Knit next 3 stitches to same needle; 2 needles remain-6 stitches per needle.

GRAFTING:
Cut yarn and thread onto yarn/blunt needle. Graft stitches together, holding yarn dowm/between the two needles:
Step 1(front needle):
Bring yarn through 1st stitch on knitting needle knitwise, remove stitch, pull yarn through.
Bring yarn through next stitch on needle purlwise, leaving stitch on knitting needle.
Step 2 (back needle):
Bring yarn through 1st stitch on knitting needle purlwise, remove stitch, pull yarn through.
Bring yarn through next stitch on needle knitwise, leaving stitch on knitting needle.
Alternate steps until all stitches have been worked. Bring yarn to inside of sock.

***TIP: Think alphabetically when grafting--K comes before P. So, Knit the stitch off the front needle and Purl the stitch off the back needle!***

Bring yarn ends to inside, finish and remove.
Shape by hand.
