A queen sized (96" by 112") quilt for my parents. My mom picked the pattern from 101 Fabulous Rotary-Cut Quilts by Judy Hopkins and Nancy J. Martin (an *excellent* book if you're at all interested in quilts).
How the book pictures the quilt:
My mom pretty much kept to this color scheme. As usual, all fabrics are from the Aurora Sewing Center, where Arlene B. (Clarence store) was instrumental (and indispensable) in the choosing.
I've currently managed to finish the top and add the borders:
The white/yellow rectangles are block number/row labels for my reference. Of course they won't be on the finished product!
The blocks are 16" square. All triangles are created by sewing two squares together on the diagonal and then trimming off the excess. While this wastes fabric (relative to more conventional piecing techniques) it is much easier for novice piecers like myself. Click here for instructions.
It's helpful to plan out the piecing so that *all* intersecting seams have seam allowances that interlock. For example:
This interlocking of seams makes it much easier to get accurate intersections both within and between blocks.
