Lesson 2, setting up the scanner:
1. Press the power button on the scanner.
2. Select "Create A Design".
3. Touch "Scan Mode". This will allow you to select the type of design you want to scan (color with outline, color without outline, monochrome, tatami stitch, satin stitch. Because we want the heart to both have an outline and to be filled in we want to choose color with outline. If you do not have an upgraded scanner use the arrows to select the top option (flower + leaves and stem + flower outline). If you have an upgraded scanner you'll notice that you have tow color with outline modes, one with a set of parentheses with zig zag stitch inside and one with a set of parentheses with arrows inside. The first on (zig zag) will give you a satin stitch outline, the second a narrow tatami outline. Choose the first one (zig zag) for this lesson.
4. Press "Enter" after selecting the color with outline (satin stitch) mode.
5. Touch "Pattern Size". Let's do this pattern in three sizes. Use the arrows until the large box on the upper right (100%, 84%, 70%) is highlighted. This take your scanned design and allow you to stitch it out at the size you drew it, reduced to 84%, and reduced to 70%. This does take more memory on you blank memory card but it also provides more flexibility. Press "Enter" to confirm your choice.
6. Touch "Stitch Adjustment". We won't change the tread density or stitch direction for this project but we will go into the stitch width menu. Touch "Stitch Width".
7. The stitch width you chose on this screen will be the with of the satin stitches that outline your heart; how thick you drew the outline (unless you drew it very, very thick) has no bearing on the actual stitch width. If you want a narrow border Select the stitch width that appeals to you. If you want to prove to yourself that the width of your drawn heart has no bearing on the stitch width chose 3.0mm.
8. Press "Enter" to confirm your choice. Notice that at the bottom of the screen the color with outline (satin stitch) icons appear as well as the pattern size selection you made. However, changes made within the "stitch Adjustment" screen do not show up.
9. You can turn off your scanner until the next lesson. It will remember the changes you just made.
