Easy Scanner Lesson #3

Lesson 3, scanning the design:

1. Turn your scanner on and touch "Create A Design". Notice that the settings we input yesterday (color with outline-satin stitch and pattern size-100, 84, 70) still appear at the bottom of the screen.

2. Touch "Scan". The green light underneath the scanner "window" should go on.

3. Place the scanner wand so that the flat edge at the top buts against the bottom of the clip on the underside of the lid. Using you thumb depress the button on the left side of the wand so that the small green light on top of the scanner goes on. While holding in the green button draw the scanner down the scan sheet at a moderate pace. If you go either too fast or to slow you will get an error message to that effect and be asked to re-scan. Additionally if your alignment point (see lesson 1) cannot be read by the scanner you will also get an error message. Check that it is dark enough and filled in then re-scan.

4. You should now see your heart outline on the left side of the screen. The entire area within the heart outline should be blinking dark and then light. If this is the case and there are no stray marks elsewhere on the left side of the screen touch "Input" to accept the scan.

5. If the heart outline is not complete and the interior is not blinking you need to darken the contrast on your scanner wand. On the left side of the wand you will see a dial with a black wedge on top. You should also see a cut-out notch in the dial that indicates the "normal" contrast setting. Increase the contrast by moving the notch about 1/8" toward the thicker side of the wedge. Touch "Scan Again" and re-scan the design. Repeat until you are satisfied and then touch "Input" to accept the scan.

6. If the heart outline is complete and the interior is blinking but there are stray marks or lines on the scan that are not on the scan sheet you need to lighten the contrast on your scanner wand. On the left side of the wand you will see a dial with a black wedge on top. You should also see a cut-out notch in the dial that indicates the "normal" contrast setting. Decrease the contrast by moving the notch about 1/8" toward the thinner side of the wedge. Touch "Scan Again" and re-scan the design. Repeat until you are satisfied and then touch "Input" to accept the scan.

7. Color in the interior of the heart. You do not need to fill it in completely; the scanner will register it as filled in if 90% of the area is filled in.

8. Touch "Scan" and scan the filled in design. After the scanner process the scan on the left side of the screen the entire area within the heart should be blinking. If it is touch "Input". If it is not or there are marks outside the heart check that you have both properly filled in enough of the design area and that you have not inadvertently moved the contrast dial on the side of the scanning wand. Then touch "Scan Again" and repeat the scanning process until the entire heart interior blinks. Then touch "input".

9. After the scanner has processed the design insert you blank card into slot 2 and touch OK to save the design to the card. If you get a message that there is no room on the card touch "Cancel OK" and select a design to delete to make room for your new design. The heart design will automatically be saved to the card once enough room has been made.
