Easy Scanner Lesson #6

Lesson 6, adding lettering:

1. Turn on scanner and touch "Edit". The Edit screen will appear and give three choices. In order to bring in (import) the multiple heart design created in lesson 5 touch "Pattern".

2. Make sure your "blank" card is in slot 2 and then touch "Card 2".

3. Use the scroll arrows to select the multiple heart design saved in Lesson 5 and then press "Enter" to confirm the choice.

4. The multiple heart design (actually a copy of it) appears in the center of the Edit screen. Leave the design in the center of the screen so that there will be room to add lettering both on the top and bottom. Then touch "End". Remember, the heart design will be repositionable at any time up until you save the new design and leave the Edit mode so don't worry if you end up needing to move it later.

5. Touch "Character" to import the first portion of the lettering. If you want to use the block letters built into the scanner touch "Built-In Characters". If you want to use lettering from a lettering card (i.e.,. card #1, the monogram card, or the cross stitch card) insert it into slot 1 and then touch "Card 1".

6. If you're using the #1 lettering card chose the alphabet you wish to use with the arrow keys and press "Enter".

7. Select the letter to make up a short phrase to put over the top of the heart design. For this example choose a phrase with 5 to 10 letters and spaces. Choose letters by first using the arrow or the arrow in conjunction with "Next Page" to select the letter grouping with the desired letter. Touch "Enter" to confirm the choice. Then use the right and left arrows to choose the individual letter. If you have mistakenly chosen the wrong set of letter us "Return" to go back to the main letter selection screen without choosing a letter. If you want to change the current letter to be selected (before you actually select it) from uppercase to lowercase touch the "A/a" key so that the individual letter choices change from upper to lowercase or vice versa. After you have selected the letter and the case you want touch "Enter" to confirm the choice. Notice the letter appears at the bottom of the screen. Touch clear if this is the wrong letter or the right letter in the wrong case (upper or lower) and then select again. Repeat this step until all the letters of your desired phrase appear at the bottom of the screen. (The leftmost ones will scroll off once there are more letters than can fit the screen.) The space character is directly after the exclamation point and looks like: _

8. Touch "End" when your phrase has been entered correctly. Select the desired size of the lettering. I'd recommend Medium or Small for this application.

9. Using the arrow keys chose one of the curved arrays for your lettering to follow. Touch "Enter" to confirm the choice. If you get an error message follow the on-screen directions to change either the array, size, or number of characters.

10. Use the arrow keys to position the lettering above your heart design in the desired position. If you wish it to be centered above the hearts and have not moved the heart design left to right then do not move it left to right; it will automatically be centered left to right. Touch "End".

11. Repeat steps 5 to 10 to import a phrase for below the hearts, this time choosing one of the straight arrays and positioning the lettering below the heart design.

12. To make changes to the lettering. At this point you can't correct your spelling or change an individual letter to another letter. If you've made a mistake in inputting the lettering you will have to delete the affected lettering and import the correct phrase.

13. To make other appearance changes to the lettering touch "Modify" and the use the arrow keys to select the desired lettering. Then touch "Enter". "Move" will allow you to move the lettering around on the screen. "Rotate" allows you to rotate the entire lettering phrase in 90 degree (without the upgrade) or 15 degree (with the upgrade) increments. "Delete A Design" allows you to delete a lettering phrase.

14. Touch "Other" to see -more- choice. Touch "Size" to change the size of one, or some, or all of the letters in the chosen phrase. Select "All" to change the size of all the letters or "Only A Section" to change the size of just one letter. For "Only A Section" choose the letter with the arrow keys. For both use "a->A" to increase the size (but not the case) of the selection and "A->a" to reduce the size (but not the case). Touch "Character Spacing" to increase or decrease the amount of space between the letters. Touch "Array" to change the array (i.e., from curved to straight). If available, touch "Curve" to increase or decrease the amount of curve. Try 'em all out to see what they do.

15. When you have all the lettering just the way you want it touch "End" and/or "Exit This Function" if necessary and then touch "Save" to save the new design to your blank card. Once you have saved the design and exited the editing you will no longer be able to edit this design. Period. Thus if you need to delete a design from your blank card in order to save this design do not delete your multiple heart design. This way if you don't like the lettering you will still be able to retrieve the multiple heart design from the card and add new lettering. (We'll talk more about this in the next lesson.)
