Lesson 7, one last card check and stitching:
1. Turn on your scanner and touch "Card Contents". Following the on-screen directions insert your "blank" card into slot 2 and touch "OK". If you scroll through the designs on the card by using the arrow you'll notice that each stage of our heart design (single heart, multiple hearts, and multiple hearts with lettering) is represented by a design on the card. Even though we edited the original design and then the multiple heart design unless we deliberately delete them from the card they will remain there. This is a great feature as if you want to add different lettering or do a different arrangement of hearts you can. (Once you save an arrangement of designs to the card they become one design. Thus if you import the arrangement back into the Edit mode you won't be able to adjust what were once the original pieces, instead the whole design will act as one big unit.)
2. Using the arrow key select the multiple heart design with the lettering. Touch "Check Color". Notice as you scroll through the colors that each lettering phrase is counted as a single color; all lettering imported in a single string is automatically assigned the same color.
3. Touch "Exit This Function".
4. Touch "Edit" and then "Pattern" and then "Card 2". Scroll through the designs. Notice anything missing? You should find that the final multiple heart design that has the lettering isn't there. While it is still on your card for some reason once you have added lettering to any design and saved it you are no longer able to bring that back into the edit mode. Aren't you glad we saved the multiple heart design without the lettering? :-)
5. As we don't really intend to use the Edit mode touch "Go To Beginning". Turn off the scanner and transfer the "blank" card from the scanner to the embroidery machine. Turn on the embroidery machine and find the design of the multiple hearts with the lettering. Stitch.
6. Evaluate your work. If you don't like the lettering delete the multiple heart with lettering design from your blank card then import the plain multiple heart design into the Edit mode and add different lettering. If you don't like the heart arrangement go all the way back to bringing individual hearts into the Edit mode and arranging them. Truth be told if I was doing this as a project (rather than as a lesson) I would stitch out each stage (single heart, multiple hearts, then multiple hearts with lettering) in order to ensure that I was moving in the right direction. While that's not always necessary sometimes it can save quite a bit of time.
