Outdoor Color Meditation

General instructional guidelines for seated meditation pose first. After class is relaxed then begin this guided meditation:

All of the sights, sounds, and sensations of this river and park can be healing and restorative to our souls. Open your eyes and take in the different colors. Notice the variety of greens, the different grades of blue in the sky, there is whites, tans, browns, greys, all the neutral earth colors. Look at and enjoy these colors for a minute before I continue.

Now close your eyes and view these colors with your mind as we ponder them. Visualize the blue sky. The clear blue sky energizes us and brings us joy and the color blue has a calming effect on the body. Take a few deep breaths and see that clear blue coming in calming your mind. All the colors have vibrations that can heal us so see the blue in your mind and then tell your body to take in all the healing vibrations that you need from the blue sky.

Now visualize some big fluffy white clouds coming into your blue sky. White is the color of protection, cleansing and innocence. If you ever feel threatened by another person’s words or emotions toward you, visualize yourself being surrounded by a bright white light. It will protect you from their negative energy and then also visualize yourself throwing love or hearts back and them and send them a blessing. All thoughts and words have tremendous power even if we can’t see it with our eyes. We need to always radiate light and love to others and we can surround ourselves with that light also.

Visualize in your mind one of the neutral colors that you found, maybe a tan, speckled, or deep brown or the clear smoky color of the river. See your favorite in your mind. Neutral colors make us think of things practical and reliable and dependable. They are easy on our eyes and minds. If these are traits and circumstances that you need more of in your life right now then see yourself surrounded by those neutral colors and that you are taking in those qualities of responsibility and security and consistency.

Next visualize the color green. If you are having trouble filling your mind’s eye with green then open your eyes and again and look at something green. In every season you can always find green in nature. Green things fill the earth. Green is the color of healing. Green is in the middle of the spectrum and balances the cool and warm colors. The body parts that are associated with green are the heart, circulatory system and the thymus and the immune system. While you are breathing in and visualizing green, take your hand and find your heart beat. Either on your heart or neck or wrist. Find your beating heart and see the healing green going to and strengthening your heart.

Now continue to visualize green and thump the middle of your sternum right above your heart. This is where the thymus glad is located and thumping it will help stimulate it.

Now take about 10 slow breaths and see whatever color most appeals to you that you have seen today. Either one that we have pondered or a different one.

Take another few breaths and give thanks to God for the beauty and healing of nature.

Open your eyes and bring your arms up overhead as you inhale. Exhale hands to heart center.
Namaste.
