General guidelines for relaxation pose. I’m going to tell you a story. It’s not entirely true but the spirit of the message is true even if we don’t remember the event.
Visualize yourself with Our Father in Heaven before you were sent on your journey to earth. He knows you and loves you. And you know yourself and your strengths and weaknesses. You have learned and progressed as much as you could and now it time to begin this adventure on earth.
And its possible that our Mother in Heaven was there to make plans too. Both of our Heavenly parents love us and they are not afraid to give us exactly what is right for us to build a person with Godly character like themselves.
See yourself as also not afraid of this mortal life. You are happy and willing work thru some hard things in growing up because you know its what you need.
Your Heavenly parents bring you a gift. It is exquisitely wrapped. The wrapping shimmers and shines and sparkles. You are so excited to see what’s inside. You are so humbled and grateful to your Heavenly parents. They will know the exact gift that is perfect for you.
You unwrap this present. You stare. You are so taken aback because it is so wonderful and so perfect in every way. “It’s a temple, " you say. “My temple. It’s my very own temple.” Your heart is brimming over with gratitude and excitement that this gift is yours and that this moment is here.
Your body – your temple is perfect in every way to help you learn charity, humility and compassion. With Heavenly Father you have picked out some physical features or some disabilities or some handicaps that are yours alone. They are your tools. Tools you picked to help you develop Godly characteristics as you work with your body here on earth. You love all these disabilities and handicaps and strange odd features. You are so thankful.
Now your spirit is here within that wonderful gift, that temple, your physical body. And you have forgotten that occasion where you received this gift from your Heavenly parents. You have forgotten that your physical features and injuries and disabilities were your own choice to help you learn love and compassion.
Sometimes you see them as a curse and you hate your body. Everyone – especially women all have some feature or part of their body that they see as an enemy. They feel it is out of the acceptable range for being beautiful. Maybe its your long nose or your bony knees or large feet. Maybe its your crooked teeth or freckles or your bad vision.
I don’t know that its possible to entirely eliminate all negative thoughts about our bodies, because that is part of the learning process of being human. What we can all do is to acknowledge and remember that our features – our curly hair or straight hair or black hair or square chin are all things that we chose as tools to help us in our earthly life.
We probably also chose all of the diseases and debilities and problems that would happen to our physical body during our lifetime. We chose them with Heavenly Father’s help and blessing according to what we need to help us learn. We can choose to be thankful and praise God for his blessing.
I would like each of you to visualize a feature or an injury or problem that you have in your body that is causing you anguish and stress and negative thoughts. I’m sure you don’t even have to think about that for 2 seconds. You know what it is right away because you worry about it every single day. Now see yourself as you unwrapped that gift of your temple, your body given to you by Heavenly Father.
This feature was there. You knew it, you loved it, you were so thankful and so excited to have it. Visualize your Heavenly parents giving you one last hug and surrounding you with golden warm light and love before you were born. They have confidence in you.
Whenever you find yourself having a negative thought about your body, about growing and changing, about gaining weight, about your personal physical features, you can bring to your mind these thoughts of gratitude, love, humility, and confidence. You can picture yourself surrounded by God’s light and the arms of his love. You can pray to have a peace of mind for these physical challenges in your life.
We will stay in relaxation pose for another minute and just let your thoughts be still and quiet as you enjoy how it feels to be you.
