Q. My tiny baby seems to get lost in the deep pocket part of the sling.

Q. The outside side of the sling is too slack/ too tight.

Q. How do I breastfeed in the sling?

A. These problems can all be solved adjusting the sling fabric when you wear it.

If your little baby seems happy curled up near you in the bottom of the sling, it isn't at all harmful. Usually, though, when you wear the sling, one side will be higher and one side lower. If your baby wants to face out into the world, pull the fabric next to you up so it is lowered to the outside around your baby's head and shoulders. If you want to breastfeed or hold your baby facing into your body, pull the outside fabric up until the inside fabric is as low as you want. Also, the rounded pocket is the deepest part of the sling, so you may want to put the seam lower on your hip and put your tiny baby a little above the deepest part. Be wise and make sure baby is still secure. (Sigh, does any of this make sense?? See the drawing below.)

If you have found your sling is a little too slack, try pulling some of the outside fabric up over your shoulder. If it is very slack, you may have sewed the smile edge of your sling not rounded enough. It should gently round up 2-3", not much more or less than that, though. On the other hand, if your sling is too snug, try pulling more fabric around to the front where you need it. If this doesn't work, perhaps your sling is too short for you.

One of the best things you can do is to practice adjusting your sling when your baby is not in it getting impatient :) Perhaps even practice with a doll or toy in if it helps you get a feel for where the fabric needs to be. Also, always be very careful as you are learning to use your sling and whenever you are trying new positions to make sure your baby is held securly.

Below is another drawing. Hope it helps.
